Government Affairs Committee
Co-Chairs - Jim Linsenmeyer, Jefferson Distributing Company and Tom Cummings, My Bank! First United Bank & Trust
The Government Affairs Committee works closely with local, State,
and Federal officials to address issues that affect our businesses
and community. Activities in addition to local meetings and events
include a trip to Washington, D.C. in the fall to meet with the
Federal legislators and Legislative Breakfasts in January and
June to discuss State issues with the State delegation.
Seminars and Programs Committee
Chairman - Jaimee Borger, Berkeley County Schools
The Seminars and Programs Committee develops and facilitates
programs and seminars beneficial to members and their businesses.
Programs include Rise and Shine Breakfast programs, professional
development seminars, workshops in conjunction with the Small
Business Development Center and others.
Transportation Committee
Chairmen - Jerry Mays, retired, and Richard Wachtel, TalkRadio WRNR
The Transportation Committee supports transportation initiatives
beneficial to the community such as Route 9, the Martinsburg by-pass,
Raleigh Street extension, Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport
and other key transportation issues in the region. The Committee
will be working closely with the newly created West Virginia Eastern
Panhandle Transportation Authority.
Workforce Development Committee
Co-Chairs- Ann Shipway, Blue Ridge CTC and Joanne Wadsworth,
Centra Bank
The Workforce Development Committee works closely with Berkeley
County Schools to provide assistance with programs such as Choices,
mock interviews, science and social studies fairs, and job shadowing.
The Committee also coordinates a New Teacher Breakfast each year
to welcome and introduce new teachers to the community.
Corporate Cup Challenge Golf Tournament Committee
Chairman - Amy Fansler
The Corporate Cup Challenge Golf Tournament, a long-standing event,
is a major fund-raiser for the Chamber of Commerce. The event
includes lunch, dinner, putting contests, and other competitions
such as the Men's Long Drive, Ladies' Long Drive, Hole-in-One,
and Closest to the Pin. A tremendous amount of planning and preparation
is required to make this a great day of golf and networking for
our members.
Wild, Wild West Auction
Chairman - Tracey Eberling, Steptoe & Johnson
The Wild, Wild West Auction is a major source of revenue
for the Chamber of Commerce, with a portion of the proceeds donated
to the United Way of Morgan and Berkeley Counties. The event includes
live and silent auctions, fun entertainment, and great food. Like
the golf outing, many hours of preparation and planning are necessary
to make this a successful event for the Chamber. A portion of proceeds will go to the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle.
