Member Spotlight - Tri-State Moving
"Big enough to do the job, small enough to do it right!" is our motto. With tractor trailers and straight trucks, Tri-State Moving can move everything from one piece of furniture to housefuls to offices and warehouses. We can perform relocations across town, across the country or around the world. We also offer storage at very affordable rates. Tri-State Moving is owned by Kimberly and James Lanager. Jim is a Marine and served in Desert Storm. One of the many skills he obtained in the Corp., is driving large trucks. He LOVES driving a tractor trailer and has pasted the love down to their three sons. They love "going on the road" with Dad. After leaving the Marines, he went to work for an Allied Van Lines agent in Northern Virginia. Kimberly was a Behavior Specialist and worked with the mentally challenged for more than twenty years. Five years ago, the Lanagers decided to go out on their own and started Tri-State Moving with one $1500 straight truck. Now they own two tractors, six trailers, three straight trucks and a pack van. They have purchased eight acres of land by the airport and are in the process of building a 50,000 square foot warehouse. "We try to be very respectful of the fact that we are loading everything a person owns, into a truck and driving away. Moving is very stressful, it is right up there with getting divorced, so we try to reassure our customers that we will take the best care of theirs belongs as possible" states Jim. Kimberly reports "Data tells us that one of the biggest things people worry about the most, is whether or not the movers will show up. We try very hard to show up at exactly the time we say we will. It is stressed to all of the drivers that even if they are going to be 15 minutes late, they need to call the customer and inform them of the delay." "We have been blessed with some wonderful employees. Some of them went to school with Jim and have been with us since the beginning. We have contracts with the GSA and all of our employees have undergone background checks. They, like Jim, love what they do. While I have gone out on jobs and picked up furniture, I prefer to be the 'face' of Tri-State Moving" laughs Kimberly. "While most companies say they are like a family, we feel we are family. We started the business out of our home, so frequently, I would get up at 5am, go out to the kitchen and the guys would be there eating breakfast and drinking coffee. It is not hard to feel like a family after your employees have seen you in your pjs and with bed head" says Kimberly. "The guys all hang out together all the time, playing golf, going to Redskins games and doing guy stuff." Both of the Lanagers feel that the level of customer service Tri- State provides is the largest factor in their success. We show up when we say we will, we work hard and fast, and do what we said we would do. While we try our hardest to move every piece as carefully as possible, sometimes things do get damaged. We do our best to make it right. Our income loss ratio ranks us as Master Movers. We have gotten many thank you notes for the great job we did. Many of our customers have been from referrals from others we have helped relocate. Additionally, we have a lot of repeat customers.
