POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

JOB TITLE &CODE: Housekeeper - 100199
DEPARTMENT: Environmental Services       
REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

                                               

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:   Responsible for cleaning of hospital and associated buildings according to hospital standards in all areas of the hospital.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
Must be able to read and write.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Must be capable of reading and writing.
2. Must be able to understand verbal instructions.
3. Previous cleaning experience in hospital or related field helpful.
4. Must be able to organize work efficiently.
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
 High School Diploma or a GED preferred

1. Performs cleaning procedures correctly and in a timely, organized manner.
2. Responsible for the collection of soiled linen.
3. Maintains acceptable standards as related to dependability and work habits, including body mechanics and sound safety procedures.
4. Adheres to all hospital and department policies, procedures, and regulations, including attendance and dress codes.
5. Operates, cleans, and maintains equipment per department and safety procedures.
6. Identifies and utilizes cleaning chemicals used in the Department following directions recommended by manufacturers and per SDS sheets.
7. Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and sanitation (e.g., hand washing, use of gloves).
8. Uses required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE; i.e., safety equipment) when in the department.
9. Carries out assignments with minimal supervision.
10. Exhibits a pleasant and cheerful demeanor when communicating with patients, professional staff, and departmental employees.
11. Promotes the hospital image and maintains a helpful attitude toward employees, physicians, patients/residents, visitors, and the community to enhance the facility’s reputation as a healthcare center.
12. Performs quality work and participates in hospital-wide Performance Improvement and Performance Improvement teams to improve processes and patient care as requested.
13. Willingly accepts assignments within the scope of practice, skill set, and level of competence.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. Must meet Department of Labor's HEAVY Duty standard.  (HEAVY WORK – Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects). Able to lift 35 pounds from floor to a height of five feet, and capable of moving furniture up to 400 feet. Capable of climbing the height of a ten-foot ladder, to wash lights, vents, televisions, and to hang curtains for a 7- to 12-hour shift.
2. Able to bend, stoop, reach, and squat, and capable of normal rotation, standing/walking for a 7- to 12-hour shift.
3. Capable of wearing the proper PPE that is required to clean an isolation room for up to 25 minutes, including air hood, NIOSH-approved N-95 mask, safety glasses, and goggles.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. Able to wear safety glasses, safety goggles, vinyl, latex, or synthetic gloves for a 7- to 12-hour shift. Able to tolerate working with and around cleaning solutions and chemicals.
2. Capable of dust mopping, damp mopping, and damp wiping for a 7- to 12-hour shift. Able to operate Environmental/Linen Services cleaning equipment for a 7- to 12-hour shift.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Employee must be capable of meeting all physical demands and working conditions as listed in this position description.
2. This position may require unsupervised access to restricted areas that may contain medications, supplies, and patient confidential information.
