Museum Director

For The Kids, By George, Children’s Museum

 

The Museum Director has a varied skill set and a creative outlook with a fun approach to working with children and a disciplined approach to managing an organization. The museum is a hands-on educational institution which immerses children and families in the history and culture of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia and underscores its importance to the founding of our nation. The museum will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays to the general public and on weekdays by appointment for school field trips.  The Director wears many hats which are described below.

 

Operations Manager

  • Acts as hands on manager of museum facility--opening, and closing exhibit areas
  • Manages cash register, ticket sales, gift shop, and inventories
  • Maintains set up and condition of exhibit areas
  • Coordinates with officials concerning City-owned building upkeep and use

 

Tour Guide/Facilitator

  • Provides orientation to visitors and coordinates group field trips
  • Recruits and trains volunteer docents
  • Documents visitor demographics to determine grant funding eligibility

 

Fundraiser

  • Initiates and coordinate all fundraising activities
  • Researches and applies for grant opportunities
  • Works with the Board of Directors to create ideas for fundraising events

 

Marketing and Promotions Manager

  • Develops contacts with local media outlets to promote museum activities and events
  • Maintains social media presence and uses it to engage the community
  • Presents to community group meetings to educate them about the museum

 

Financial Manager

  • Develops the budget and maintains controls to adhere to spending limits
  • Provides Board of Directors with cash flow analysis and financial projections
  • Manages grant awards and associated financial controls and reporting

 

Museum Board Manager

  • Schedules and facilitates monthly meetings of the museum volunteer Board of Directors
  • Prepares Agenda and Minutes of each meeting
  • Works with Board to develop goals and objectives for the museum’s vision

 

The position is part time at 24 hours per week with an hourly pay rate of $20 per hour.
